Pittsburgh, PA For Your Paperweight or Industrial Boiler Related Collection-CHPearson1 Details Description: This is a very nice rectangular clear glass paperweight having a flat profile. This vintage paperweight has a black on white image of Charles Henry Pearson (British-born Australian historian, educationist, politician, and journalist) with his signature under the photo and the words "Yours truly" above the signature. The paperweight was made by the Abrams Paper Weight Co. of Pittsburgh, PA as noted at the bottom of the paperweight. There is also the notation "PAT. NOV. 23 92" at the bottom of the paperweight. The paperweight has a white enameled backing, which is applied to the back. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of the description. Additional Information: According to Wikipedia Charles Henry Pearson (born September 7, 1830 and died May 29, 1894) was a British-born Australian historian, educationist, politician, and journalist. According to John Tregenza, "Pearson was the outstanding intellectual of the Australian colonies. A democrat by conviction, he combined a Puritan determination in carrying reforms with a gentle manner and a scrupulous respect for the traditional rules and courtesies of public debate. Date: Unknown, but most likely late 1800 to mid 1900s (Late 19th century to mid 20th century). Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Size: The base is ~4 1/8" by ~2 1/2" and is ~7/8" thick. The paperweight weighs about 10.5 ounces. Maker: Abrams Paper Weight Co. Marks: Marked at the bottom "ABRAMS PAPER WEIGHT CO. PITTSBURGH, PA/PAT. NOV. 23 92". Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice vintage paperweight with a nice historic image, which would display very well in your collection of paperweights or of important thinkers of the 19th century. Condition: The paperweight is in good condition with no cracks, hairlines, or repairs. The print image is in good condition and shows the details very well. The paperweight has some minor scratches throughout. The backing has a few scratches which do not appear to go through and affect the quality of the photo. All these issues can be seen in the photos. However, this is a very interesting paperweight with nice historic image of one of the most important thinkers of the 19th century that would make a great addition to your paperweight collection.
